Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Effective January 1, 2015, the Department of Social Services expanded its coverage of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) evaluation and treatment services for Medicaid enrolled members (HUSKY A, C, or D) under the age of 21 for whom ASD services are medically necessary.

Join our Network – Become an ASD State Plan Provider

The ASD State Plan aims to connect HUSKY A, C, and D members under 21 with appropriate services and supports within their communities, while also teaching behavioral management skills to both the member and their family. By becoming a HUSKY Health provider, you help expand the network and resources for the ASD community. Below are the simple steps toward enrollment and qualification.

Enrollment

Enrollment starts through the enrollment wizard at www.ctdssmap.com, and selecting Provider, then Provider Enrollment. Applications can not be saved as a work in progress, so allow enough time to complete the application. Once submitted, please save your tracking number (ATN) for status updates. Contact the Gainwell Provider Assistance Center for more infomration at 1-800-842-8440.

Qualification

Carelon Behavioral Health of Connecticut (Carelon BH CT) ensures the clinical qualification of all ASD providers. This means, ensuring the provider can work within their scope to provider ASD services to HUSKY Health members. Documentation is required for qualification, resulting in a determination letter. Details on required documentation can be found here: Provider Qualification Outline. Qualification infomration is also sent to Gainwell as part of the enrollment process. Providers may reach out to the Provider Relations Department with any questions at ctbhp@carelon.com, or 1-877-552-8247.

Re-Enrollment

To maintain active status in the HUSKY Health network, all licensed practitioners must continue to comply with enrollment and qualification regulations. This means, re-enrolling and re-qualifing per CMAP (HUSKY Health) standards. BCBA’s re-enroll every two (2) years, and all other behavioral health clinicians re-enroll every five (5) years. Documentation for re-qualification includes active licensure, BACB certification, where applicable, and a DCF Background Check Form update.

Autism Waiver Providers

Qualification for Autism Waiver Provider Solo Practitioners providing behavioral health services are to qualify through Carelon BH CT. All other waiver providers must contact GT Independence at providercredentialing@gtsd.org.

Carelon Behavioral Health of Connecticut (Carelon BH CT), Gainwell Technologies, and the Department of Social Services (DSS) invite you to an essential training session focused on empowering autism spectrum disorder (ASD) Medicaid providers to effectively mitigate risks within Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services.

In this training, providers will watch a recorded session led by Jerome Chiu, a consultant from RadBx, focusing on risk mitigation within ABA.

A Q&A session will follow, offering the opportunity to ask questions and gain clarification from industry experts.

ASD Learning Collaborative: Best Practices in Service Delivery

The Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership (CT BHP), in collaboration with the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) team at Carelon Behavioral Health CT (Carelon BH CT) is pleased to announce an ASD Provider Learning Collaborative. This collaborative aims to promote best practices in delivering ASD services to HUSKY Health(Medicaid) members, which includes:

  • Providing services through telehealth or in-person settings, especially focusing on caregiver involvement.
  • Creating a consistent approach for accepting service referrals.
  • Highlighting the need for discharge forms that include clinical recommendations when referring members for Care Coordination.
  • Ensuring that service authorization is based on the member’s clinical needs, with billing reflecting the actual hours of service provided to the member and their family.

The Connecticut Behavioral Health Partnership (CT BHP) in collaboration with the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) team at Carelon Behavioral Health CT (Carelon BH CT) is pleased to announce an ASD Provider Learning Collaborative. This collaborative will focus on ensuring best practices when providing ASD services to HUSKY Health members, including the Carelon BH CT chart review process, the Department of Social Services (DSS) Audit protocol and regulations, and standards of care presented by the Autism Commission on Quality. This collaborative will include representation from the Department of Children and Families (DCF), the Department of Social Services (DSS), the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Gainwell Technologies and Carelon BH CT.

THE INTEGRATION OF TREATMENT FOR NEURODIVERSE YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS

This virtual professional forum explores the integration of treatment for neurodiverse youth and young adults. This presentation will examine neurodiversity, the diagnoses of intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder, and eligibility criteria for services provided by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS). It will also review inclusive and sensitive treatment approaches for this population and present a personal story touching on mental health,
autism, and a life of advocacy.
